After only losing once in dual matches during the regular season, the New London boys golf team played in the Firelands Conference golf tournament on Thursday at Brookside Golf Course in Ashland and finished second, with a team score of 348 behind first-place St. Paul’s 346.
Because of accumulating the most points throughout the season, however, the Wildcats walked away with the overall conference championship.
Junior Brody Sword was the medalist Thursday with a 77 and earned Firelands Conference Player of the Year honors. Grady Heileman shot an 85 and was named to the conference second team, while Kendyl Moffit shot 92 and was named honorable mention.
Also for New London, Tate Landis shot a 94, Kade Detterman a 99 and Presley Ferguson 106.
Mapleton shot 354 for third place, as Crestview shot 367 for fourth place.
The Ashland girls placed second Thursday at the Ohio Cardinal Conference tournament but won the overall OCC title based on total season results.
Elleni Miller shot the lowest score for the Arrows with a 90, followed by Natalie Kohler with a 94, Kyah Huckleberry 96, Cary Wyatt 98, Haylee Bono 99 and Chloe Crunkilton 103.
