ALACHUA, Fla. (WCJB) – A new 707,000-square-foot distribution center by Ben E. Keith is set to come to Alachua County.
“It’s an exciting time for us; this is a big deal,” said Mike Sweet, the president of the company.
Ben E. Keith has been a major player in the food distribution industry since 1906, starting in Texas and now expanding to include Georgia and Florida.
“There are a lot of great restaurants in the area and, for that matter, in the state of Florida, and we are looking forward to serving them in any way we can,” Sweet added.
A groundbreaking ceremony recently took place in Alachua County to mark the construction of this new distribution center, which will create 400 new job opportunities for the local community.
“Currently, we have over 200 employees at our existing division in Florida, but with this new building, we expect to bring in more jobs. It allows us to grow, creating positions ranging from drivers and warehouse associates to sales representatives,” Sweet said.
“There are so many different positions within our company, including roles in transportation, warehouse operations, purchasing, accounting, and sales,” added Marco Di Giosia, the general manager.
This new facility will serve as a key hub for food distribution, making it easier for local businesses to obtain the products they need.
“We distribute to your favorite restaurants, hotels, and a lot of institutional clients, including school districts,” Di Giosia added.
The building is set to open in the fall of 2026. Construction on the new distribution center is expected to progress quickly, and the company is already actively recruiting for various positions.
