For all the highlights Steph Curry has delivered across his career, Saturday night in Philadelphia added one more – though not the kind you’d expect. The Warriors went down 126-119 to the Sixers, ending Golden State’s five-game winning streak, but it was Curry’s own declaration after the game that grabbed attention.

Curry poured in 29 points and handed out 13 assists, trying to drag his team back from a 15-point hole. The Warriors were short-handed, missing Jimmy Butler for the first time since acquiring him last month. And while Curry had his usual bag of three-pointers and floaters, it was one brief burst in transition that set the stage for his surprising announcement.

Rare slam dunking Curry

With the Warriors mounting a comeback in the fourth quarter, Curry found himself alone in the open court. Instead of the usual finesse layup or quick pull-up three, he took flight for a dunk – his first in, wait for it, more than six years. Here it is.

At 6-foot-2, Curry has never been known for aerial artistry. His game lives outside the arc and in tight spaces, not above the rim. That made the rare slam worth noting, but for fans hoping to see more of them, the player himself was quick to end any of those thoughts.

After the game, Curry wasn’t interested in talking about the loss or his individual performance. Instead, he declared something you rarely hear from a player still at the top of his game.

“I’ve been feeling pretty good,” Curry admitted. “I’ve been dealing with some knee stuff all year, so I took advantage of a cherry-picked opportunity.”

Then came the twist.

“That will probably be my last dunk. I’m calling it now, that was the last one you will see. I’m calling it right now, that’s the last one you will see.”

For now let’s take him at his word… but we’ll be watching next time he’s sent away running into the space.
