(CBS DETROIT) – About 88 people will lose their jobs as a result of a plant closure by Jack Cooper Transport Company in Wayne.
That information was among the details related in a notice received Jan. 10 by the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Development, Workforce Development division. The separations related to the shutdown of the plant at 3800 Michigan Avenue are expected to take place Feb. 2, according to the letter.
The Worker Adjustment and Retraining Act, also known as WARN, is a federal and state requirement calling for formal notifications of a business closing or mass layoff. The letter notes that pay and benefits will remain in place through final date of employment.
The job classifications are primarily drivers and mechanics; along with some supervisor and manager roles. The company provides vehicle transport and specialized vehicle logistics, according to its website.
