FARGO, N.D. – North Dakota State men’s golf returns to action after the winter break and looks to defend their Loyola Intercollegiate team title from 2024, heading to Goodyear, Ariz. to kick off the spring semester. The event, which will be held on February 16-18 will be hosted by Loyola Maryland at the Palm Valley Golf Club.
Tournament Schedule
The tournament tees off at 8:30 a.m. CT/7:30 a.m. MT on Sunday with the opening of three rounds scheduled for the event. Monday and Tuesday’s rounds will also see a scheduled 18 holes with shotgun starts set for 8:30 a.m. CT/7:30 a.m. MT.
The Field
The Loyola Intercollegiate will see 20 teams square off at Palm Valley. Along with host Loyola Maryland and the Bison, the field includes Boise State, Bucknell, Fairfield, George Washington, Gonzaga, Grand Canyon, Howard, Marshall, Middle Tennessee State, Missouri State, Northern Colorado, Omaha, Richmond, Siena, SIU Edwardsville, South Dakota, Tennessee-Martin and Toledo.

The Course
Located in Goodyear, Arizona in the middle of the Palm Desert, the Palm Valley Golf Club (tournament will use the North and South courses) is a par 72 course with a length of 7,015 yards and carries a slope of 130 with a course rating of 73.0. The golf facility is a 27-hole (also includes a West course) layout designed by Arthur Hills and built in 1993 with common Bermuda fairways and tiff dwarf Bermuda greens.
Bison at the Loyola Intercollegiate
2025 will be the second trip to the Loyola Intercollegiate for the Bison, with the event running annually since 2012 (excluding 2021 due to covid). The Bison are the defending champions of the event, winning in a 20-team field with a team record 54-hole tournament score of -40. The Bison also claimed the individual medalist honors as Jake Skarperud won the even last season with an NDSU 54-hole record score of -14, posting rounds of 65-71-66.

– Jake Skarperud enters the Loyola Intercollegiate as the defending champion, winning by two shots with a -14 score for the 54-hole event. Skarperud is posting a 73.5 scoring average so far in 2024-25 with six rounds of par or better in the fall.
– Rylin Petry led the Bison through the fall semester, posting a 72.1 scoring average and a .892 win percentage. Petry posted four top-10 finishes in five events during the fall, and posted a team best round of -5 (67) at the Monterrey Collegiate Classic to wrap up the fall semester in late October.
– Ian Simonich claimed the only Bison medalist honors in the fall and comes into the spring with the second-best scoring average for the Bison this year with a 72.6. Simonich won the Tommie Invitational at the beginning of October and has been consistent for the Bison with nine rounds of par or better and four finishes in the top 15.
– Like the previous three, Josh Galvin has also played every round for the Bison this season and has the team’s third best scoring average with a 72.7. Galvin has eight rounds of par or better this season and an .817 win percentage with three top-10 finishes.

NDSU will take six golfers to the Loyola Intercollegiate. The Bison competing will be Josh Galvin, Sean Moore, Rylin Petry, Ian Simonich, Jake Skarperud and Max Wilson.
Looking Ahead
Following the Loyola Intercollegiate, the Bison will have two weeks off before returning to action at the Bandon Dunes Championships March 9-11. The event, hosted by Idaho, will be held at Bandon Trails in Bandon, Oregon.
