ND women’s basketball: Irish even more short-handed against Lafayette

The Notre Dame women’s basketball team are even more shorthanded Sunday.

The undefeated and fifth-ranked Irish will have just seven players available for their road game at Lafayette College in Pennsylvania. The non-conference game between the Irish (3-0) and the Leopards (1-2) tips at 2 p.m. ET.

Grad student Liatu King, a 6-0 forward, will miss the contest. King, a transfer from Pittsburgh, is in concussion protocols after she hit her head on the court in the fourth quarter of Wednesday’s 92-46 home win over James Madison. She scored 11 points before leaving the game early in the final period.

King started the first three games for the Irish and is averaging 17.7 points and 9.7 rebounds per game and shooting 73 percent from the field. She averaged 18.7 points and 10.3 rebounds per game last season for Pitt, earning All ACC first team honors and ACC Most Improved Player honors.

The Irish are hopeful that King will be available to play on Saturday when they play at No. 3 USC.

Cassandra Prosper, a 6-2 junior, is slated to start in place of King Sunday. She will team with Olivia Miles, Sonia Citron, Kate Koval and Hannah Hidalgo in the starting lineup for the Irish. The only other players available to play Sunday are Emma Risch and Sarah Cernugal.

The Irish are currently also without senior Kylee Watson (knee injury late last season), grad Maddy Westbeld (lingering foot issue), grad transfer Liza Karlen (left foot/ankle issue) and junior KK Bransford (red shirting).
