CLEVELAND — It’s the holiday season, which means it’s time for enjoying time with family and friends, but also time for gift shopping and spending.
If you have an extra $4 billion laying around, you (in theory) have just enough money to purchase the Cleveland Cavaliers, one report says.
The Cavs franchise is worth an estimated $3.95 billion, according to a report from Sportico released Wednesday. The report, “2024 NBA Franchise Valuation Ranking,” compares all 30 NBA teams by their franchise valuation as of 2024, as well as their year-over-year increase, based on data compiled by Sportico. The report measures the value of each team, as well as the team-related businesses and real estate holdings, which together combine for the total value estimation.
The Cavs’ estimated worth of $3.95 billion ranks 18th among NBA teams, just ahead of the No. 19 Milwaukee Bucks ($3.91B) and just behind the No. 17 Washington Wizards ($3.98B).
However, while the Cavs rank middle of the pack in valuation, the franchise had a 23% year-over-year increase in value, the third-highest among NBA teams. Only the Brooklyn Nets (43%) and Los Angeles Clippers (25%), who rank fourth and fifth in franchise value, respectively, saw higher year-over-year valuation increases.
The NBA’s 30 franchises combine for an estimated worth of $138.06 billion, equating to an average worth of $4.6 billion, according to Sportico. The Golden State Warriors lead all NBA franchise valuations at $9.14 billion, while the Memphis Grizzlies rank last at $3.06 billion. The Warriors’ valuation of $9.14 billion is the second-highest amongst any North American sports franchise, behind only the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys ($10.3 billion).
The top 10 most valuable NBA franchises, in descending order, are:
