NBA upgrades Draymond Green foul on Zach Edey to flagrant 1 after initially not reviewing it
Memphis Grizzlies players and coaches were unhappy on Friday night after the officials did not review a foul on Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green for a flagrant.
The NBA agreed — the next day. On Saturday, the NBA announced it had upgraded the foul to a flagrant 1 after league review.
On the third-quarter play, Green fell to the floor and lost the ball. After a standing Edey collected the ball, Green appeared to have Edey’s ankle wrapped with his elbow and forearm, causing the 7-foot-4 center to fall. The play stopped a Grizzlies fastbreak opportunity and a transition take foul was called.
“It definitely wasn’t a basketball play,” Edey said.
Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins agreed.
“I know there’s a code in this league, and I don’t understand why that doesn’t get reviewed,” Jenkins said. “Very disappointing.”
The Grizzlies ultimately lost 123-118. The loss ended a three-game road trip, and Memphis will return home to face the Denver Nuggets on Sunday.
