As part of the Karl-Anthony Towns for Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo trade, the Charlotte Hornets are receiving a handful of players and picks.
Per The Athletic’s Shams Charania, the Hornets will get DaQuan Jeffries, Charlie Brown and Duane Washington Jr. along with two second-round draft picks from the New York Knicks and one second-round draft pick from the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Here’s a look at what each team will get once the trade takes place:
The blockbuster trade between the Knicks and Timberwolves comes after strong seasons from both teams.
New York reached the Eastern Conference semifinals and were a game away from advancing despite missing a handful of key players due to injury, including Randle. Minnesota reached the Western Conference Finals for just the second time in franchise history in 2024 behind an outstanding postseason run from Anthony Edwards.
Though the Timberwolves found success last season, they saw it best to split up Towns and Rudy Gobert after the two-year experiment, and they received a decent haul in return for Towns.
Randle spent much of last season off the court due to injuries, but he put up 24 points and 9.2 rebounds per game when he was on the court. Minnesota also got a strong role player in DiVincenzo, who put up 15.5 points while shooting a career-high 40.1 percent from deep.
Towns already played alongside one of the league’s rising stars—Edwards—in Minnesota, and he’ll play alongside another in New York in Jalen Brunson. The title window is open for the Knicks after an MVP-caliber season from Brunson, and they’ll hope the addition of Towns will be the missing piece.
While the Hornets didn’t land any big names in the trade, they picked up some picks that are always valuable for a team focused more on the future than the present.
