In a memorable appearance on “The Late Show” in 2018, Shaquille O’Neal shared a light-hearted story about a chance encounter with soccer star David Beckham.
While strolling through Beverly Hills, O’Neal stumbled upon a wallet that caught his attention, the former NBA star, who is also known as Shaq, recalled in the interview.
“I was walking one day in Beverly Hills and I found a wallet,” Shaq recounted. “Usually when I find wallets, I just take all the money out and just throw them.” However, this wallet was different. Upon closer inspection, he discovered it belonged to none other than Beckham himself.
Shaq told the story on “The Late Show” while sitting next to Victoria Beckham, the wife of the soccer star.
“I looked and it said David Beckham. I was like, can’t be. And I looked at the ID and it was David Beckham,” he said. Instead of simply handing it over to the front desk, Shaq decided to track Beckham down personally.
Did You Know?
While O’Neal returned the wallet to Beckham, he also used his comedic personality to try and prank Beckham and also while telling the story on the talk show.
“First I played a joke and I was like, I have your wallet. It’s gonna cost you a million dollars to get it back,” Shaq said.
Beckham, however, was quick to recognize the NBA Legend’s signature humor. “Shaq, stop playin,” Beckham responded.
“The funny thing is, there was some money in his wallet,” Shaq said. “‘You know what happened?’” he recalled Beckham asking.
“I was like, nope.”
Shaq’s lighthearted style and funny stories had everyone laughing, highlighting the buddy-buddy vibe between these two sports stars.
