The NBA filed to dismiss the Warner Bros/Discovery lawsuit over the league’s upcoming deal with new broadcast networks. The new deal with NBC, ESPN (who wrote the linked article being quoted here), and Amazon has left TNT without any NBA games after the upcoming season. The lawyers for the NBA did not mince words, stating that Warner/Discovery attempted to match an existing offer, but with changes.
The NBA specifically argued that Warner Bros. Discovery — the parent company of Turner — attempted to improperly rewrite the terms of Amazon’s offer and then accept those terms.
“TBS chose not to match NBCUniversal’s offer, which would have enabled TBS to continue distributing games via its TNT linear cable network,” the league wrote. “Instead, TBS purported to match the less-expensive Amazon offer, but only after revising it to include traditional distribution rights and making numerous other substantive changes.”
The league is widely expected to move forward with the new broadcasters, and it will begin with the 2025-26 season. Meanwhile, Portland Trail Blazers fans await word on this year’s local broadcast plan, as the team has left ROOT Sports and is reportedly talking to local networks including KPTV and KATU.
