30-year old Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo has accumulated quite the resume across his 12+ seasons. Naturally, comparisons to all-time greats will surface as he ages.
Basketball Reference has calculated a 98.86 percent chance that Antetokounmpo makes the Hall of Fame.
On a recent episode of NBA Countdown on ESPN, retired NBA veteran and champion Kendrick Perkins commented on Antetokounmpo’s legacy, saying, “Giannis is one NBA championship away of cementing himself as the second-greatest power forward of all time right behind Tim Duncan.”
Perkins continued, “He’s already top-five in my opinion. We can shuffle it how you want to. Again, it goes to the point of, just like with Steph, just like with Giannis, KD, and Bron, when you have a guy of this magnitude, you got to make sure you maximize the pieces around him.”
NBA analyst Brian Windhorst responded to Perkins’ statement, “I don’t know how many years left the Bucks have where they can support his prime. They’ve had a great run, a great window where they compete for championships. It’s one of the biggest questions in the league.”
The Greek Freak is an eight-time All-Star, who has been named to eight All-NBA teams, including six First Team honors. His list of accolades consists of back-to-back MVP awards, a Defensive Player of the Year trophy, NBA Finals and All-Star Game MVPs, and a championship in 2021. Additionally, Antetokounmpo has been named to five All-Defense teams and counting.
While a championship would solidify his legacy significantly, the Greek Freak currently sits second in NBA.com’s most recent MVP ladder. The future Hall-of-Famer has led the Bucks into playoff positioning after a shaky opening to the season.
It would not be surprising to see Antetokounmpo honored with more hardware as coach Doc Rivers seemingly encourages his stars to chase individual accolades. During his tenure with the Philadelphia 76ers, Sixers superstar Joel Embiid earned an MVP award along with back-to-back scoring titles.
With Khris Middleton returning to form, along with Antetokounmpo and Lillard’s grown chemistry, the Bucks are the biggest threats to the Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers atop the Eastern Conference.
