The Milwaukee Bucks added arguably the steal of free agency when they got Gary Trent Jr. to sign a one-year deal worth the veteran’s minimum.
Yet, it appears not everyone is as high on Trent as Bucks fans are. Player ratings for NBA 2K25, the latest installment in the popular video game franchise, were recently revealed, and Trent was given a 79 out of 100 overall player rating. That puts Trent tied for the 38th-highest-rated shooting guard in the game. Furthermore, he is tied for 81st overall in “3-point shot attribute,” which is laughable.
At 79 overall, Trent is currently tied with players such as Alec Burks, Keyonte George and Jaden Ivey, all players one could argue he is better than heading into the NBA 2024-25 season. As for the 3-point shot, he’s rated an 83. Andrew Nembhard, Damion Lee, Jordan McLaughlin and Nick Smith Jr. are all ahead of him, and he’s a better perimeter shooter than each of them.
Yes, Trent is coming off a down year with the Raptors, where he averaged 13.7 points and 1.1 steals compared to 17.4 points and 1.6 steals the year before, but he’s still not a 79. He’s still one of the best perimeter shooters the game has to offer, shooting a red-hot 39.3 percent on 6.4 attempts per game this past season.
Even if it’s 80-flat, Trent deserves to be in the low 80s in terms of individual rating, and his outside shot rating should be raised.
Like the Milwaukee Bucks in general, Gary Trent Jr. will have to earn his respect from outsiders with a strong showing this season. Despite a solid offseason highlighted by the Trent signing, it feels like the league is not high on the Bucks whatsoever, making them an underdog. Trent and the rest of the team should only use it as fuel as they hunt down a championship in 2024-25.
These ratings aren’t something that will have Trent tossing and turning at night, but they should put a chip on his shoulder. It wouldn’t be surprising if he bumps it up a few ticks as the season progresses, as playing alongside such a talented group of players should only elevate his individual play.
