The Nazareth Academy girls were fifth and the boys seventh at their respective state golf meets Oct. 18-19.
The girls were fifth in Class 1A with a 695 (347-348) at Red Tail Run in Decatur, 11 strokes from fourth.
Senior Anna Bukovac was 16th with a 160 (82-78), five strokes from top-10, all-state honors, followed by senior Maryssa Zielinski (tied for 23rd, 167: 79-88); freshman Gabriella Giangrande (tied for 52nd, 180: 90-90), senior Caitlin Sullivan (tied for 75th, 193: 96-97), junior Claire Kenna (77th, 194: 102-92) and senior Marie Bedford (85th, 209: 103-106).
At the 2A boys state meet at Weibring in Normal, the Roadrunners posted 639 (311-328), three strokes from fifth.
Juniors Gray Musker (tied for 27th, 155, 76-79) and Sam Wilde (tied for 42nd, 158: 77-81), senior Brian Morris (tied for 50th, 161: 73-88), junior Brendan Belden (tied for 67th, 167: 85-82), senior Eddie McNamara (tied for 89th, 179: 93-86) and junior Hugh Ascher (tied for 92nd, 180: 85-95).
Freshman Isabella Gomez was a top-24 singles finisher with a 3-2 overall record to lead the Roadrunners’ four state entries at the 1A state tennis meet Thursday through Saturday.
Sophomore singles player Elaine McNamara and the doubles team of senior Margaret Anos and sophomore Ana Djurasovic were 1-2, winning their opening matches. Senior Elisabeth Anos and junior Ava Bemer were 0-2 in doubles. Nazareth tied for 18th (7 points).
Nazareth’s entries qualified with top-four finishes at the Benet Sectional.
McNamara and Gomez were third and fourth in singles. In doubles, Margaret Anos and Djurasovic were third and Elisabeth Anos and Ava Bemer placed fourth.
The Roadrunners (26 points) placed second to 1A state champion Benet (36).
