Two national fitness brands are expanding their New Jersey footprints.
Crunch Fitness franchisee Fitness Holdings North America announced Jan. 10 it acquired five locations from Jersey Strong Gym. The newly branded Crunch centers are located in Tinton Falls, Ocean Township, Wall Township, Freehold and Marlboro.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The new Crunch locations will undergo more than $20 million in renovations, according to Fitness Holdings.
“Strengthening the Crunch Fitness presence in New Jersey demonstrates our commitment to bring seriously fun fitness to even more gymgoers in the Northeast,” Fitness Holdings North America CEO Mark Federico said in a statement. “This expansion marks a significant step in our New Jersey growth and beyond.”
The acquisition increases Crunch Fitness’ presence in the Garden State by 190,000 square feet. It brings the total number of facilities operated by Fitness Holdings to 14 in New Jersey. In the Northeast, it has 51 locations.
When Fitness Holdings acquired Crunch Moorestown in April 2022, the Greenwich, Conn.-based company said it was part of its plan to grow to 50 clubs in two years.
In a LinkedIn post, Federico celebrated the achievement, saying, “We can’t wait to roll up our sleeves and begin converting these clubs to Crunch over the next few weeks. Big things are on the horizon, and we’re just getting started!”
Crunch Fitness started as a small gym in a basement studio in New York City’s Greenwich Village in 1989. It now boasts more than 400 locations.
Brothers from Rockland County, Steven and Jason Haber will open ISI Elite Training’s first location in the Northeast in February.
According to a Jan. 9 announcement, the brothers’ first center is slated to open at 28 W. Palisade Ave. in Englewood, with more locations to follow. A representative for ISI Elite Training said the franchisees will continue to focus on Bergen as well as Hudson counties for future centers.
Jersey City resident Steven Haber, a Syracuse University graduate, has a background in construction and is now focusing on fitness entrepreneurship. Jason Haber attended Don Bosco Prep High School in Ramsey and received a bachelor’s degree in business administration and management from Ithaca College, where he played Division III football.
The brothers “are passionate about helping others achieve their fitness goals and look forward to introducing this innovative brand and culture to the Northeast,” the franchisees said in a joint statement.
Founded in 2011 in Myrtle Beach, S.C., ISI Elite Training centers offer workout sessions led by nationally certified coaches. Each workout takes members through a fast-paced Athletic Based Training (ABT) session, burning up to 1,000 calories in 50 minutes.
For a limited time, the Englewood location is offering founding memberships, which include exclusive benefits and discounts. More information is available here.
