Naomi Osaka has revealed her Los Angeles home came just three blocks away from last week’s devastating wildfires in the city – prompting her to arrange for a precious item to be rescued from it.
The Japanese tennis star, who is currently competing in the Australian Open, opened up on the panic as the wildfires burned very close to home after her first-round win over France’s Caroline Garcia on Monday.
While also paying tribute to the people of LA, Osaka admitted she had asked for someone to rescue her daughter’s birth certificate from the $8.6million property in the Tarzana neighborhood amid fears it could be ‘burned down’.
‘I was watching the fire map and the fire is like three blocks from my house,’ she said in her post-match interview. ‘So I had someone go and get my daughter’s birth certificate, cause I didn’t know what would happened if that burned down.
‘But I guess [I am] sending all my love to LA. I know we hear about fires, but me in particular I didn’t know how devastating it could be.
‘I just hope everyone’s doing well and I’m sending them all my love.’

The fires have caused devastation across Los Angeles with thousands of homes destroyed
Thousands of homes have been destroyed by the wildfires in LA, while the death toll currently stands at 24.
Sixteen of the 24 deaths were attributed to the Eaton Fire and eight to the Palisades Fire, according to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.
Twelve people were missing within the Eaton Fire zone and four were missing from the Palisades Fire, Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna said. Investigators were trying to figure out if some of the missing might be among the dead.
Osaka, who purchased her five-bedroom Tarzana pad after selling her previous Beverly Hills home in 2022, gave birth to daughter Shai, one, in the summer of 2023.
However, on the eve of the Australian Open she announced that she has split from the father of her child – rapper Cordae – after six years together.
The 27-year-old said in a statement on Instagram that her and Cordae are ‘no longer in a relationship’ but remain on good terms.
‘No bad blood at all, he’s a great person and an awesome dad,’ she added.
‘Honestly really glad our paths crossed because my daughter is my biggest blessing and I was able to grow a lot from our experience together.’
