Tennis superstar Naomi Osaka has announced her split from her long-time boyfriend, Cordae.
Osaka and Cordae have been dating since 2019 and share a daughter named Shai, who they welcomed in July 2023.
The couple’s breakup comes as a surprise to fans as they seemed to be waxing strong, with their most recent appearance coming at Jamie Foxx’s birthday party.
On Monday, Osaka took to her Instagram Stories to share a shocking update with her followers.
The 27-year-old shared a message that read, “Hi everyone, just wanted to say that Cordae and I are no longer in a relationship.”
Osaka, who slammed rumors of a breakup with Cordae in 2022, ensured everyone knew they split on good terms and added that he was a great dad to their daughter.
She wrote, “No bad blood at all, he’s a great person and an awesome dad. Honestly really glad our paths crossed because my daughter is my biggest blessing and I was able to grow a lot from our experiences together.”
Actor and comedian Jamie Foxx celebrated his 57th birthday on December 13 but hosted many of his famous friends at Mr Chows in Beverly Hills, California, on December 10.
Osaka and Cordae were among the celebrities in attendance.
They were seen exiting the party venue. Osaka wore a stylish jacket over a red minidress while her rapper boyfriend wore a black short-sleeved button shirt over a black inner T-shirt and matched it with black-and-white baggie joggers.
Cordae, who opened the door to the SUV for Osaka, also stopped to hand a homeless man $10.
Rumors that Osaka and Cordae were dating began in April 2019 after the four-time Grand Slam winner shared a video on Instagram that showed her giggling while the musician joked around while looking at himself in a mirror.
In June 2019, Cordae confirmed that he and Osaka were an item during an interview with HOT 97. He said, “That’s my girl,” when asked about her.
When asked how long he and Osaka had been dating, Cordae revealed that they had been secret lovers for a long time before adding, “We just kept it hidden for a while, kept it quiet.”
He added, “I don’t really like to go public with my personal life, but if you just ask me [whether she’s my girlfriend], it’d be disrespectful to her if I said ‘Nah,’ at this point.”
On January 11, 2023, Osaka shared a “little life update” with her fans in a post on X, formerly Twitter.
A photo of an ultrasound accompanied the post including a writeup from the tennis player that read, “The past few years have been interesting to say the least, but I find that its the most challenging times in life that may be the most fun.”
Osaka, who had been on a lengthy absence from the tennis court at the time, also wrote, “These few months away from the sport has really given me a new love and appreciation for the game I’ve dedicated my life to. I realize that life is so short and I don’t take any moments for granted, everyday is a new blessing and adventure.”
She added, “I know that I have so much to look forward to in the future, one thing I’m looking forward to is for my kid to watch one of my matches and tell someone, “that’s my mom,” haha.
Osaka concluded, “2023 will be a year that’ll be full of lessons for me and I hope I’ll see you guys in the start of the next one cause I’ll be at Aus 2024. Love you all infinitely.”
A source confirmed to People on July 11, 2023, that Naomi Osaka and Cordae welcomed a baby girl in Los Angeles. The insider also shared that mother and baby were doing okay.
In August 2024, rumors emerged that Osaka was pregnant with a second child. However, she dispelled the rumors when she addressed a fan’s comment from a previous video celebrating her fake baby.
She said, “I just wanna say, I’m not preggos, but if I was, I wouldn’t want many more.”
Osaka clarified, “Because giving birth was traumatic. But thank you, though for your blessings.”
