Naomi Osaka and Mirra Andreeva have both hit form at the right time as the Australian Open approaches.
Osaka reached the ASB Classic final, but was forced to retire against Clara Tauson with an abdominal issue.
It represented her first final since 2022, with Osaka having returned to the WTA Tour at the beginning of 2024 after her maternity leave.
Andreeva meanwhile made it to the semi-finals of the Brisbane International, with her run ended by eventual champion Aryna Sabalenka.
The 17-year-old only appeared in the rankings in 2022, when Russian teenager Andreeva broke into the top 300.
But she has now risen to a career-high ranking of 15th following her run in Brisbane, climbing one spot from 16th ahead of the Australian Open.
And former world number one Osaka has risen from 57th to 50th as she continues her fantastic comeback.

Less than three years after breaking into the rankings, Andreeva now has a top 15 place, having recovered from her Brisbane singles semi-final exit to win the doubles with Diana Shnaider.
She clinched her one and only tour-level title to date in Romania last season, having also reached a first Grand Slam semi-final at the French Open.
Her remarkable and rapid rise is epitomised by the fact she is the youngest player in the current top 150, with Sabalenka predicting Andreeva to break the top 10 this season.
But Andreeva and Osaka haven’t been the only players impressing in the early stages of the 2025 season.

Sabalenka continued her impressive displays on Australian soil with the Brisbane International title, although the world number one cannot rise any higher in the rankings.
Losing finalist Polina Kudermetova has, however, soared from 107th to 57th after her fantastic tournament in Brisbane, where she reached her first WTA final.
Age | Career-high rank | Singles titles | Win-loss | Prize money | |
Naomi Osaka | 27 | 1 | 7 | 291-167 | $22,068,647 |
Mirra Andreeva | 17 | 15 | 1 | 112-35 | $2,808,807 |
A top 100 debut has been secured by the Russian, who took the first set against Sabalenka before the Belarusian’s experience helped her secure a comeback win.
ATP rankings rises have also taken place, with Hong Kong champion Alexandre Muller climbing from 67th to 56th, and losing finalist Kei Nishikori moving from 106th to 74th.
