Kansas Wesleyan University announced Friday morning that men’s basketball coach Anthony Monson has been relieved of his duties.
“I want to thank Coach Monson for his contributions to the men’s basketball program and the university,” said Miguel Paredes, Kansas Wesleyan Athletic Director. “We believe that, for our program to reach the next level, a change is necessary at this time. We wish Coach Monson the best moving forward.”
Monson spent nine seasons coaching at Kansas Wesleyan, amassing a 160-109 overall record and a 121-81 record in KCAC play, but went 12-16 overall and 7-15 in KCAC play this season, finishing 12th in the conference. However, his teams only finished better than third place in the KCAC regular season twice.
Monson led the Coyotes to three NAIA National Tournament appearances, posting a 2-3 record.
Paredes said a national search for the next KWU men’s basketball coach will begin immediately.
