This just released from the NYS Gaming Commission for Pro Oxidant at Belmont: “Horse experienced biaxial [multiple] sesamoid fractures during training Dec 13. Due to a decline in health, euthanasia was elected Dec 28.” In other words, this poor boy, just five, was made to suffer for over two weeks with more than one broken bone – for, I assert, PR purposes (lower death numbers). The complicit: Gatsas Stables and Richard Dutrow, who had just bought Pro in his last race, at Saratoga in August.
That’s not it for Mr. Dutrow, however. Dreamworkin, says the CHRB, was killed training at Santa Anita Sunday. No cause is given, but the death has been filed under “non-musculoskeletal,” which likely means the Dutrow-trained Dream just collapsed and died – at the age of two.
On that same day, Rio Del Sol perished at Santa Anita, again no cause disclosed. She, too, was but two years old. With these latest, the 2024 Santa Anita Death Toll stands at 26; for Cal as a whole, 106. What more evidence do you need, America?
