On the first day of the recruiting period for Division I men’s basketball, college coaches found their way to Greenfield, Ind.
The draw, of course, is Greenfield-Central star Braylon Mullins, a four-star prospect who is entering the final stretch of an intense recruiting battle that will end prior to the start of the high school basketball season.
The coaches in for the 6-5 Mullins early Wednesday morning were Michigan’s Dusty May, Tennessee’s Rick Barnes (with two assistants) and North Carolina assistant Brad Frederick. Mid-morning, Kentucky coach Mark Pope dropped by with an assistant and Indiana coach Mike Woodson and three assistants stopped by the school for lunch.
Greenfield-Central coach Luke Meredith said UConn coach Danny Hurley and his staff are planning to stop by on Thursday for workouts and North Carolina coach Hubert Davis is due in early next week.
Mullins, who is ranked as the No. 23 prospect in the country on the 247Sports composite, has already taken an official visit to UConn. He has an official visit planned for Michigan this weekend, followed by North Carolina (weekend of Sept. 14), Indiana (Sept. 21), Duke (Oct. 5), Tennessee (Oct. 19) and Kentucky (Oct. 26). He plans to take a little time after his final official visit, then make a decision.
Mullins is one of most highly sought recruits in the country and will be one of the top contenders for IndyStar Mr. Basketball going into the season. He averaged 25.0 points, 6.2 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 3.2 steals as a junior at Greenfield-Central.
