• It’s a fairly quiet season for Huskies news, at least outside of the basketball gym. Christian Caple used the lull to revisit some of his predictions from last season. He went back to the game-by-game picks he made prior to the start of the 2024 season. The picks don’t look too bad in retrospect, especially since so many things tend to change over the course of the season. The big miss in the conference order pick was Indiana, but who didn’t miss wildly on Indiana this year?

• The other Husky football news over the weekend was much sadder, as Carol James passed away at 92. Don James’ wife of 61 yeas was very visible in the public during her husband’s legendary run as the UW football coach. Condolences and best wishes to her friends and family.

• Last season represented a big change in the Apple Cup, with the game moving from Thanksgiving weekend to early in the non-conference schedule. Washington and Washington State released the schedule for 2026-27 for the game, which will return to the teams’ on-campus stadiums. No big changes, as they will play on the 5th and 18th of September in those two years.

• Husky Tennis is now in full swing, and they continued their winning form by smashing Gonzaga, which I don’t mean as a backhanded compliment. The men’s team won every completed match at the meet, including a dominant victory for #1 singles star Cesar Bouchelaghem, 6-1, 6-0. The Huskies are now 3-0 and will host Utah and North Florida next weekend.

• Women’s Tennis had a more difficult task on the road against #6 UCLA. The Huskies were competitive with several of the highly-rated Bruins, but ultimately lost the five completed matches, allowing UCLA to clinch the match-up early.
