“The Genetti Hotel will be transformed into a mini-golf course,” according to a news release, “for the 8th annual Williamsport Rotary Indoor Mini-Golf Classic. The course is open to all members of the family ages 5 to 95. Golf clubs are provided, but you are welcome to bring your own putter. A basket raffle with items from businesses in the community offers an additional opportunity to support the event.”
The event will be from 1 to 5 p.m., Feb. 16.
“The entire first floor and ballroom of the Genetti Hotel will be transformed into a uniquely designed and decorated 18-hole course,” the news release said. “Special holes include a Plinko game, the Operation game (with life-size patient), and Ski Ball. The 18th hole features a hole-in-one contest where the winner will receive $500.
The annual event is a fundraiser and there are fees to participate.
Marc Schefsky has been named the honorary chairman of this year’s Rotary Mini-Golf Classic. While manager of the Genetti, he had the vision to transform the first floor into a mini-golf course fundraiser to support the Williamsport Rotary Club.
“Thanks to his hard work and leadership, the event has now grown into a full 18-hole course,” the news release said. “An active community volunteer and lifelong golfer, Marc was diagnosed with ALS, Lou Gehrig’s Disease, in 2022. While the disease has slowed him down, it has not interfered with his activism and commitment to serve the community as he encourages others to donate, advocate, and volunteer for the ALS cause. A portion of every admission will be donated to fund ALS research and support.”
Each hole is sponsored by local businesses or individuals. Proceeds from the Classic support a wide variety of organizations. Locally, the Rotary supports dictionaries for third graders, a perennial garden in Brandon Park, sponsor of the “First Friday for Kids” event, the Cochran all-access playground, Loyalsock High School – Interact Club, a coat drive for the Salvation Army, and the Junior Rotarian Program where outstanding students from local schools are recognized.
“Rotary is a global network of community volunteers,” the news release said. “Members are business, professional, and community leaders in your locality who meet regularly to plan and implement community service activities and network with other professionals. For those interested, members can also choose to become involved in international humanitarian service efforts. More than 1.2 million men and women in over 200 countries and geographical areas belong to over 33,000 Rotary clubs. Come join us. Our Club meets every Monday at noon at the Genetti Hotel.”
