After six years, the Miners golf squad reached the mountaintop again, winning their 16th state title Thursday at Meadow Brook Golf Club in Taylorsville.
Park City posted a team score of 4 under par across Wednesday and Thursday to secure the hardware. They won by 5 strokes over second place Desert Hills from St. George.
Junior Rawson Hardy picked up some additional, individual hardware Thursday, claiming the individual 4A title with a score of 8 under par. He sealed the title with a birdie putt on his final hole. Head coach George Murphy said Hardy didn’t even want to know his score heading into the final hole and remained locked-in on the task at hand.
The team took off to Buffalo Wild Wings to celebrate their accomplishment, escaping the wind and rain. The Miners will also play a fun scramble round shortly and hold a team banquet. Park City also will head to a tournament with all the top teams in the state, across all the classifications, in the coming months and potentially a national tournament in Arizona next fall.
“It’s just a blur,” said Murphy on winning the title. “I’m happy for these kids that are on this team this year. … It’s really a lot of fun watching these guys win that and seeing their excitement and their joy.”
