Sports show season is in full swing in Wisconsin and the state’s longest-running event will return once more.
Now in its 84th year, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Sports Show will be held March 7 to 9 at the Wisconsin Exposition Center at State Fair Park in West Allis.
The show will feature outdoor and lifestyle exhibitors, demonstrations, entertainment, presentations and competitions.
The event will include three main stages – the Mercury Marine Hawg Trough, Lumberjack Stage and Usinger’s Cooking Stage – and dozens of booths and displays.
The Hawg Trough will host presentations from a range of outdoors experts, including top anglers Steve Heiting, Pete Maina, Dale Stroschein and Mark Zona.
And on March 8 and 9 renowned fishing educator Greg Karch of Learn 2 Fish With Us will use the space to provide youth fishing clinics. The first 75 attendees at each clinic will receive free fishing equipment.
Mercury Marine will once again bring the latest in its lineup of boat motors, including outboards rated to hundreds of horsepower and innovative electric models for smaller craft.
The show will once again offer several competitions, too.
West Town Archery will offer archery contests spanning youth to adult and amateur to pro. At least one archery competition will be held each day of the show.
And Daniel Boone Conservation League will offer its air rifle tournament. Cash prizes are offered to the top youth and adult competitors.
Attendees are also invited to bring in a deer rack or mount for the Wisconsin Buck & Bear Club Trophy Deer Contest. All entries will be displayed for the public. Guests who enter with a deer to enter in the contest or buy a Wisconsin Buck & Bear Club season pass receive free admission.
The Lumberjack Stage will host entertainment by the Timberworks Lumberjack Show, including cross-cut sawing, ax throwing, chopping, speed climbing, a chainsaw race and log rolling.
As they have for generations, Man’s best friends will also be featured at the 2025 Sports Show in agility seminars presented by the Milwaukee Dog Training Club and in the Fastest Retriever Contest. Both will be held at the Lumberjack Stage.
The trout pond, another long-time feature, is also back. Show attendees can wet a line with the chance to take home dinner.
The Usinger’s Cooking Stage will host daily presentations of “Midwest Gill’n” by Mad Dog and Merrill and of “Cooking Gone Wild” by Starla Batzko.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources will also have a space at the show. Fisheries, law enforcement and wildlife staff from the DNR will be on hand to speak with the public. The agency will also offer sales of hunting and fishing licenses.
In a special promotion, show attendees can enter a drawing for a fishing adventure with Zona, a pro bass angler and host of “Zona’s Awesome Fishing Show” on the Outdoor Channel. The prize package includes round-trip airfare for two, a three-night hotel stay, a full day of fishing, new rod-and-reel combos and lures, out-of-state fishing licenses and all meals and ground transportation. The total prize value is $8,232.
The winner will be selected at random after the show ends March 9 and notified by phone in the following days.
Show sponsors include Mercury Marine, Usinger’s, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and Busch.
Admission is free throughout the show to all U.S. military personnel and veterans.
General admission tickets (ages 15 and up) are $12, youth (ages 6 to 14) are $6 and children age 5 and under are free.
Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts in uniform are free on March 9. Seniors (age 55 and over) are $8 at the door on March 7. Valid ID or credentials required.
Show hours are noon to 7 p.m. March 7, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. March 8 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 9.
