Michigan State basketball has one final tune up before heading to Hawaii for the Maui Invitational, but as the Spartans learned on Saturday, you can never take an opponent lightly.

Johnson finished with 23 points and helped give Bowling Green a real chance of knocking off the Spartans before Coen Carr made some huge plays down the stretch to help swing the game in the Spartans’ favor for a 86-72 win.
MSU showed some grit to pull out the win, but many of the concerns surrounding the Spartans presented themselves again. The Spartans shot 4-for-20 from 3-point range as a team while Jaden Akins, the team’s best shooter who they really need to heat up, shot 1-for-5 on 3s and 5-for-16 from the field.
Michigan State will have to start playing better soon, and will have one final tune up against Samford before playing Colorado in Maui next week and potentially matching up with two-time defending national champions UConn.
Samford, who is 4-1, will test the Spartans’ defense as the Bulldogs are averaging 97.6 points per game, good enough for seventh in the nation, but their defense leaves a lot to be desired.
Here’s how to watch the Spartans’ game against Samford:
