Michigan football: 2025 schedule and key games
Michigan football’s schedule and key games for the 2025 season.
The unofficial start of the Michigan football season is just around the corner.
The Wolverines have decided they will open spring practice on Tuesday, March 18, program spokesman Dave Ablauf told the Free Press Monday afternoon, for what will be the second season under the tutelage of head coach Sherrone Moore.
That will begin a five-week stretch of spring ball, where the Wolverines are allowed 15 organized practices. While the first 14 of them will not be available to the public or media to observe, the last one on April 20 is the annual Maize vs. Blue spring game at Michigan Stadium, which is free for anybody who wants to attend.
The game − which will be played at noon and televised on Big Ten Network − is often the first true chance to see the development which has taken place in the early portion of the offseason and also helps outsiders get an idea of the perception of players internally, the pecking order at various positions and any new schemes which may be implemented.
This year even more than others, all eyes will be on the quarterback position. It’s always the most important spot on the field, but after a year of subpar play at the position led to a 5-5 start to the season, U-M made a concerted effort to add talent to the room in the offseason. A likely position battle will ensue over the next 5-6 months and is expected to be between graduate transfer Mikey Keene (Fresno State) and the nation’s No. 1 incoming freshman prospect regardless of position, Bryce Underwood, out of nearby Belleville.
Whoever wins the job will be tasked with orchestrating a new attack after first year offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey was brought in to replace Kirk Campbell (who was let go after one season on the job) at the position.
U-M has also announced it will host its pro day − a chance for outgoing players of the program to workout in a similar setting to the NFL combine in front of NFL scouts who choose to attend, which in Ann Arbor usually means at least one rep from all 32 teams − on Friday, March 21.
