Michigan football is nearly finished with its 2025 recruiting class. The Wolverine coaching staff has shifted its focus towards 2026, eying a potential top-five class next year. Yet the Wolverines aren’t quite done with 2025. There’s still one huge fish that the Wolverines are after. And that’s top-40 offensive lineman Ty Haywood.
Over the past two months or so, there’s been a lot of momentum between Michigan football and Haywood. Around the same time that Bryce Underwood’s talks ramped up, talks with Haywood also picked up. The Wolverines have been making a huge NIL run for Haywood, and it certainly has gotten Haywood’s attention.
Haywood visited Michigan football on January 17th, and some believed that a commitment could have come on or immediately after that visit. Obviously, that didn’t happen.
National Signing Day is set for Wednesday, February 5th. That’s less than a week. Haywood will likely commit then, although it’s also possible that he commits sooner. But currently, all signs point to Haywood announcing a commitment on February 5th. But will it be to Michigan?
Currently, all signs point towards Michigan. No negative news has come out related to Haywood and Michigan, and all signs indicate that he had a great time visiting Ann Arbor. If anything, I’d expect that Michigan and Haywood could be working on finalizing an NIL deal, similar to the delay with Justice Haynes announcing his commitment to Michigan.
Michigan football wanted to invest heavily in the offensive line in the 2025 class, and they’ve done just that. If Haywood were to sign, the Wolverines would have landed two offensive tackles ranked in the top 38 of the 247 Sports composite rankings in 2025, along with the #1 player in the country at the quarterback position. It’s also notable to point out that, while it’s a small sample size, the Wolverines have not lost an NIL battle they were serious about. Haywood is another test of how strong Michigan’s NIL can be when utilized.
All in all, we should have an answer within a week. Right now, it looks like Michigan will win Haywood’s signature, but it’s not over until pen hits paper (and sometimes not even at that point). Keep an eye out for any updates.
