For the second time this month, a former high school quarterback pledged to Michigan football has rescinded his commitment.
Brady Hart, a four-star prospect out of Cocoa Beach, Fla. (Cocoa Beach) announced Friday not only is he decommitting from the Wolverines, but he is reclassifying from the class of 2026 to the 2025 class and joining Texas A&M.
The 6-foot-5, 190-pound prospect posted #GigEm” on social media Friday afternoon, shortly after word got out. Before his re-classification, Hart was rated the No. 6 quarterback, No. 17 player in Florida and the No. 98 overall player in America in the Class of 2026.
The move is a ripple effect from Michigan football’s recent flip of the No. 1 player in the nation, Belleville five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood.
Underwood, committed to LSU since the week before Michigan won the national championship last January, began to waffle on that commitment earlier this fall. When Michigan saw an opening, it struck.
According to Barstool Sports Owner and Michigan alum Dave Portnoy, he joined forces with Larry Ellison — owner of software company Oracle, the fourth richest person in the entire world — whose wife Joplin, is a big Michigan fan.
That — combined reportedly with Tom Brady, and the pull of U-M’s winning tradition, facilities, coaches, local ties and eight-figure pay day — was enough to land the generational prospect.
As U-M’s courting of Underwood picked up, 2025 quarterback commit Carter Smith (top-150 player in his class) decommitted.
Now, Hart is gone too.
Michigan will not only have a 5-star freshman battling to win the job, but could bring in a transfer with more experience to also push for the role in 2025. There’s still a shot Jadyn Davis could stick around for a sophomore season and compete for a job.
“The transition from high school to college is very, very vast, especially at the level that we’re trying to achieve and the success we’re trying to achieve at the University of Michigan,” Michigan offensive coordinator Kirk Campbell said Tuesday on the “Inside Michigan Football” radio show. “His development has been really good. His knowledge of the system is outstanding for him to go out there and be able to operate everything.
“Now, it’s the speed of the game, continuing to speed up his feet, anticipating throws, protecting the ball a little bit better, but he’s doing a really good job. I’m excited for his future. He has a bright one and he’s a great kid. Comes from a great family and just excited to have him part of the room.”
Hart led Cocoa to a state title as a sophomore and completed 70.6% of his passes in 2024, for 3,293 yards, 32 touchdowns and just eight interceptions as he led Tigers to an 8-3 season.
