Michigan football makes top group for five-star top target in 2026

Michigan football has been in heavy pursuit of one target in particular in 2026, and it’s made no secret of its covetousness.

Now that the Wolverines have five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood and a pair of five-star offensive tackles in the 2025 class, it’s hoping to lure a top talent at running back — commensurate with the aforementioned talent — to pair along with them.

Ever since Tony Alford defected from Ohio State to Michigan, he’s had an impact in recruiting. From getting Justice Haynes to transfer from Alabama to 2026 Mineral (Va.) Louisa County five-star running back, the maize and blue have been on the radar for top tailbacks.

As for Hiter, who has made a few visits to Ann Arbor, he’s officially set to return in June, and on Saturday, he revealed his top four: Michigan, Ohio State, Georgia, and Tennessee.

While Michigan does appear to have a tenuous lead at this point in Hiter’s process, there’s likely a long way to go before the elite tailback finalizes the process and makes a verbal commitment.

The Wolverines brought in two running backs in the 2025 cycle in three-stars Jasper Parker and Donovan Johnson. Hiter is rated by the 247Sports Composite as the No. 17 player in the country, regardless of position.

Penn State was previously on his radar, but appears to be eliminated at this juncture.
