Michigan football went on a five-day clock following the ReliaQuest Bowl win over Alabama in terms of roster retention. The transfer portal had closed on Dec. 28 but players have until five days after the final game for their respective teams to enter.
And on Thursday, the Wolverines lose a somewhat surprising player.
Owen Wafle had flipped from Notre Dame to the Wolverines and though he didn’t get a ton of fanfare initially, the defensive tackle ended up getting a ton of hype on early signing day in Dec. 2023. However, according to On3’s Pete Nakos, Wafle is on his way out as he has entered the transfer portal.

Wafle didn’t play in 2024 but could have been on a shortlist to see the field in 2025. His intention to transfer may impact Michigan’s recruitment of his brother, Luke — a four-star edge rusher in 2026 — who has visited Ann Arbor multiple times and was also on hand in Tampa for the ReliaQuest Bowl.
