Michigan fell more than any other team in Monday’s AP Top-25 men’s basketball poll. After losing their only game of the week, the Wolverines dropped from No. 14 to 24 in the latest rankings.
Michigan lost on Tuesday to Arkansas 89-87 at Madison Square Garden in New York. Arkansas was not ranked at the time and still isn’t, checking in at No. 27.
The Wolverines were not ranked for more than two years before debuting in last week’s poll following two Big Ten wins. They will almost certainly need to beat 14th-ranked and undefeated Oklahoma on Wednesday as well as Purdue Fort Wayne on Sunday in order to stay in the top 25 (in fact, they’d move up if they pull that off).
Michigan is among five Big Ten teams in the top 25. Oregon, at No. 10, is the highest-ranked of the bunch.
The Michigan women, meanwhile, held at No. 20 in Monday’s rankings. They only played once this past week, crushing Detroit Mercy 100-54 at home on Saturday. They also play Oklahoma, ranked 10th, on Tuesday. Those games are part of the Jumpman Invitational in Charlotte, North Carolina. There are eight Big Ten teams ranked on the women’s side, including No. 1 UCLA.
Two days after being bounced from the Big 12 women's basketball tournament in the second round, Arizona State has fired women's basketball coach Natasha Adair.
