Men’s Golf Sits in 11th After First Day of Border Olympics – UTRGV Athletics

LAREDO – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men’s golf team sits in 11^th place after day one of the Border Olympics Monday at Laredo Country Club.

UTRGV finished the day with a two-round total of 593 after posting a 296 in the first round and a 297 in the second. The Vaqueros are two shots ahead of 12^th place Lamar and two strokes behind Troy for 10^th place.

Sophomore Esteban Gonzalez led the Vaqueros with a two-round total of 145 after carding a one-under par 70 in the first round and 75 in the second. Junior Arthit Kruaprayong is tied for 19^th and one stroke back of Gonzalez after shooting a two-round total of 146 and posting rounds of 74 and 72.

Junior Luis Limón is tied for 56^th after shooting a two-round total of 152 and posting rounds of 76. Sophomore Eddie Lai is currently tied for 66^th after shooting an 80 in the first round and a 74 in the second for a two-round total of 154.

Senior Taj Sutherland finished tied for 75^th after recording a two-round total of 157 after shooting a 76 in the first and 81 in the second.

Louisiana maintains the lead after day one with a two-round score of 572.

The Vaqueros will wrap up the Islander Open on Tuesday with the final round starting at 8:30 a.m.
