CANYON, Texas – The Buffaloes of West Texas A&M start their 2024 fall schedule ranked tied for 15th in the Bushnell/Golfweek DII Men’s Golf Preseason Top-25 Poll announced on Friday morning.
Colorado Christian picked up nine of the possible 19 first place votes for a total of 430 points to sit atop of the poll followed by North Georgia (seven first place, 424), Oklahoma Christian (one first place, 416), West Florida (370), Georgia Southwestern (one first place, 344), Lincoln Memorial (342), Grand Valley State (313), Florida Southern (one first place, 284), Nova Southeastern (280) and Central Oklahoma (268) to round out the top-10.
Axel Ochoa enters his fifth season as the head coach of the WT men’s golf program. 2023-24 was the most successful season in WT Men’s Golf history as the Buffs advanced to the NCAA Division II Championships for the second time in school history following a fourth-place finish at the NCAA South Central/West Regional Championships in Las Cruces.
WT tied for seventh during the stroke play portion of the National Championships to advance to medal match play, the Buffs took down top-seeded West Florida in the quarterfinals before falling to fifth-seeded North Georgia in the semifinals by a stroke.
The Buffs open their fall schedule on September 9-10 as they travel to Warrensburg, Missouri to take part in The Mule hosted by Central Missouri at ules National Golf Club.
