ABILENE — On Friday, men’s golf officially unveiled their schedule for the 2024-25 season, including three tournaments located at PGA Tour and major championship venues, a trip to Cancun, Mexico and a return to Payson, Arizona and The Golf Club at Chaparral Pines for the WAC Championship.
“This year’s tournament schedule takes up to some of the best courses in Texas and across the country,” head coach Tom Shaw said. “We play several PGA Tour and major championship sites such as Chambers Bay in Washington, PGA National in Florida, and Trinity Forest in Dallas. Our schedule also has a heavy dose of Texas this year, with stops in Houston, Dallas, and McAllen, so we won’t be very far for Wildcat golf fans to come see us compete.”
The Wildcats begin their season at Louisiana Tech’s Jim Rivers Intercollegiate at Squire Creek Country Club in Ruston, Louisiana on September 8-10. This will be the first time the Wildcats will compete in the tournament since 2022. ACU will play its second tournament in September in Houston. The team will play in Rice University’s Bayou City Collegiate Classic from Sept. 30 through October 1.
The ‘Cats finish their fall playing in two major venues. First, the team heads to Dallas for SMU’s Trinity Forest Invitational at the Trinity Forest Golf Club on October 6-8. At the end of the month, the Wildcats head to Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, on Oct. 26-28 for the FAU Golf Invitational at the PGA National.
To open up the spring portion of their season, the Wildcats return to Cancun for the second straight season for UTRGV’s Los Vaqueros tournament located at Iberostar Playa Paraíso Golf Club, on February 2-4, multiple teams across the country and multiple Power 4 programs.
“When we return from the winter break in February, we’ll return to the Iberostar Golf Club in Cancun, Mexico against several Power 4 programs in what is fast becoming one of the top events in the country,” Shaw said. “We are looking forward to getting that experience to help us prepare for the postseason.”
Following their trip abroad, ACU will stay in Texas for three straight tournaments. They start at the Bentwater Intercollegiate in Montgomery at Bentwater County Club on February 10-11, making an appearance in a second tournament hosted by Rice. Second, the ‘Cats head to Sugarland for the HCU Colin Montgomerie at the Sweetwater Country Club on March 3-4. Then ACU will participate in its final tournament in Texas on March 10-11 for the UTRGV Match Play tournament in McAllen at the McAllen Country Club.
To close out the regular season, the Wildcats have two straight tournaments outside their home state. The program heads to Seattle for Seattle U’s Redhawk Invitational on March 31 through April 1 located at the infamous Chambers Bay Golf Course. ACU then heads to Columbus, Ohio, on April 11-12 for Ohio State’s Buckeye Classic at the Columbus Country Club.
After all that, ACU heads back to Payson, Arizona for the WAC Championship at The Golf Club at Chaparral Pines on April 25-27.
This will be the second straight season the conference championship will be at that venue. Last year, the Wildcats finished fifth out of the 11-team field. Any winners from the WAC tournament, individual and team, will qualify for the NCAA Championship tournament beginning in May.
“All in all, our schedule allows our team to travel not only nationwide, but also internationally, and play top-caliber courses against some of the nation’s best teams,” Shaw said. “We are confident that this schedule will best prepare us for the NCAA Championship season in May.”
