NORMAN, Okla. – James Madison was one of 59 NCAA Division I men’s golf teams to receive the 2023-24 Golf Coaches of America Outstanding Team Academic Award, the organization announced on Tuesday afternoon.
To earn the team academic award, a team must submit a grade-point average of 3.50 or higher in the academic year. It is the fifth time in the past six seasons the Dukes have received the award.
A trio of Dukes – Alexandre D’Aurelle de Paladines, Nick Schlickenrieder, and Václav Tichý – were named GCAA All-American Scholars last week, which recognizes student-athletes who participate in 50 percent of their team’s competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.20.
JMU enters the 2024-25 season with a blend of experience and fresh faces as the Dukes welcome four newcomers to Harrisonburg. René Bergendi, Tommy McKenzie, Stefan Rojas, and Alex Seibal join a strong group of returners including First Team All-Sun Belt honoree Daniel Cheng and rising juniors in Tichý and Owen Kose. JMU will open the season on Sept. 9 as it travels to Myrtle Beach for the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate.
