VONORE, Tenn. – The College of Coastal Georgia men’s golf team currently leads the Bojangles Fall Classic after two rounds posting a 290 in round one followed by a 283 in round two on Saturday.
Bo Shuler and Jake Ackerman both paced the Mariners in the first round, both shooting under par. Shuler finished four under par for a 68 in his first round, making birdies on holes one, six, nine, 13, and 18 with his lone bogey coming at the par four fourth hole. Ackerman finished one shot worse with a three under 69 performance in the first round, shooting five under on the back nine to overcome a one over front nine. Antonio Juarbe finished four over for a 76, Brad Hammock finished one shot worse at five over, and Finley Burke finished eight over to cap off the first round.
In the second round, the Mariners improved their score by seven strokes and were once again led by the freshman Ackerman. The Tampa, Fla. native outdid himself once again and became just the fourth player in school history to shoot 65 or better in a single round. Ackerman bogeyed just one hole, the par four sixth, and six of his eight birdies came on the back nine. Burke also finished under par in his second round shooting a two under 70, Juarbe improved by two strokes and finished one over, Hammock shot a 75, and Shuler finished the second round with an 81.
The Mariners sit atop the leaderboard at three under for the tournament, and sit 22 strokes in front of the defending national champions Dalton State in second place. Faulkner, Blue Mountain, and host Tennessee Wesleyan round out the top five.
The third and final round of the Bojangles Fall Invitational will be played on Sunday morning with a shotgun start scheduled for 9:00 a.m. Fans can follow the live scoring here.
