JAMESTOWN, Pa. – The Bucknell men’s golf team opened the Red Flash Invitational with a 292 team score on Monday, and the Bison are in fourth place and only seven shots off the lead at the halfway mark of the tournament. Sophomore
Hayden Quinn continued his strong start to the season with a 1-over-par 71, while freshmen
Patrick Pritsios and
Jack Hartman both shot 72.
Quinn, who made 15 pars in his round, is tied for fifth place on the individual leaderboard, three shots behind leader Dillon Pendergast of Cleveland State. Mercyhurst’s Evan Rowane is one shot back. The tournament champion receives an automatic entry into the qualifying round for the famed Sunnehanna Amateur Championship, whose list of past champions includes numerous PGA Tour stars, including Ben Crenshaw, Brad Faxon, Webb Simpson, Lucas Glover, Rickie Fowler (twice), and Collin Morikawa.
Hartman also made a birdie and 15 pars, and Pritsios collected two birdies and 13 pars. The two Bison rookies are both in contention in a tie for ninth place. Bucknell also counted a 77 from
James Key and discarded a 79 from
James Robbins. Indy
Michael Rudnick also shot 77.
Cleveland State has the team lead after posting a 5-over 285. Youngstown State is two shots back at 287, followed by Mercyhurst (291), Bucknell, and Monmouth (295) in the top five.
The second and final round gets underway on Tuesday morning.
