SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Harvard men’s golf team finished in sixth place in its first tournament of the Spring season at the Savannah Intercollegiate. The Crimson’s 36-hole score of four-under par (572), became the team’s final score after inclement weather canceled the final round of play on Sunday.
The action got started in Savannah on Saturday morning as the Crimson’s lineup of Jeff Fang, William Ma, Barry Zhang, Jonathan Hartono and Diego Saavedra-Davila began a 36-hole day at the Club at Savannah Harbor.
Senior captain, Jeff Fang, led the way with rounds of 73 (+1) and 66 (-6) to finish tied for eighth place with a final score of five-under-par. Fang’s second round featured seven birdies and just one bogey to help the Canada native fly up the leaderboard. Fang also posted the best scoring average on par four holes in the tournament with a 3.78 scoring average and a -5 total.
First-year William Ma was the team’s leader in the first round after he carded a four-under-par round of 68 on the first 18 holes. Ma’s even par score of 72 in the second round slotted him tied for 13th place at the conclusion of the second round.
First-year Barry Zhang and sophomore Jonathan Hartono finished T35 and T45, respectively, after posting scores of two-over-par and three-over-par in the tournament. The final player in the Crimson lineup, Diego Saavedra-Davila, posted a score of 13-over-par in Savannah.
Playing as an Individual, Harvard first-year Ieuan Jones shot rounds of 72 and 69 to finish at three-under-par after 36 holes. His score was good for T17 in the field. The other Harvard Individuals, Darren Choi and Bryan Fang, finished T67 and T71 after recording 36-hole scores of +10 and +11, respectively.

The Harvard men’s golf team will be back on the course in late March to compete at the Cutter Creek Invitational (Mar. 28-30). The Crimson will play in the tournament hosted at the Cutter Creek Golf Club in Snow Hill, N.C., for the second consecutive season.
