LEMONT, Ill. – The NMU men’s golf team faced a challenging day two at the Flyers Fall Intercollegiate, where they finished 13th from the Cog Hill Golf & Country Club #4, the Dubsdread Course.
The course played slightly more difficult today, averaging a score of 80.60 compared to the 79.76 average yesterday.
“It was a hard fought day for both teams today,” says head coach Ben Johnson, who oversaw both the men’s and women’s teams while they competed in the tournament. “I was proud of our teams attitude, and am looking forward to the GLIAC preview this coming weekend.”
Walter Ylitalo recorded a score of +8 (80), finishing 19th individually. Starting on hole 10, Walter carded two birdies in his opening nine holes, recording a back nine score of 38 and front nine score of 42. Walts two-day total of 22 pars was good for T3 on the field, just four shy of the lead.
Tyler Annala concluded in 33rd place individually carding a score of +8 (80) with two birdies. Annala started on hole 11, and recorded a front nine score of 37 and back nine score of 43. Annala’s two birdies came back-to-back on hole’s five and six amid a six-hole stretch that saw him shoot -2.
Eric Yun also finished with a score of +8 (80), finishing his tournament 58th individually. Shooting a front nine 39 and back nine 41, Yun moved up eight spots from round one.
Arthur Ylitalo finished the Wildcat scoring in 73rd after his score of +7 (79), with a round breakdown of 38 for the front nine and 41 for the back nine. Art moved up 14 spots from round one, and his lone birdie of the day came on the 419-yard par four 16th, the second hardest hole in the tournament.
Joe Luke ended the tournament T73 individually with a score of 83, with front nine score of 40 and back nine score of 43, putting Luke at +11.
Levi Pennala finished 36th as an individual with his round of +10 (82), recording a birdie on the par five fifth hole.
