Memphis football linebacker Karmelo Overton was taken to Regional One Medical Center after collapsing on the field during the Tigers’ game against Rice.
Overton was hit by two Rice players on a kickoff and was briefly down on the field. He got up and started to run toward the Memphis sideline, but his legs gave out and he was down on the field for an extended period of time. He was surrounded by members of the training staff and teammates during the extended timeout.
Trainers eventually put Overton on a stretcher and put him on a cart. The Tigers’ radio broadcast reported that he’d been taken to the hospital. A further update on his condition was not immediately available.
Overton, a redshirt freshman, has made one tackle this season.
The Tigers led the Owls 17-13 at halftime of Friday’s game at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium.
