HOUSTON — Penny Hardaway and his Memphis basketball team will try to win their fifth straight game and the ninth of their past 10 when they make the trip to Rice.
The 16th-ranked and first-place Tigers (17-4, 7-1 AAC) get the Owls (11-10, 2-6) − who have lost six in a row and are next-to-last in the conference standings − on Sunday (2 p.m., ESPN+) at Tudor Fieldhouse. Memphis has not played a game there in more than 12 years (Jan. 16, 2013).
It is the first of two scheduled meetings between Memphis and Rice this season.
PJ Haggerty is the Tigers’ leading scorer (21.4 points per game). He is second in the AAC and fifth in the country.
Trae Broadnax is tops among all Rice Owls at 12.7 points per game this season.
