Memphis basketball will carry a five-game winning streak into next week’s AAC tournament.
The 16th-ranked Tigers (26-5, 16-2 AAC) — outright conference champions for the first time since 2013 — closed out the regular-season portion of their schedule with a home win over South Florida. Penny Hardaway’s team will be the top seed at the conference tournament and is scheduled to play its first game at noon CT Friday at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.
But what about the week after that? What about March Madness? What seed will the Tigers be awarded for their first trip to the NCAA tournament since 2023?
Part of that will depend on what happens in Fort Worth. Part of it could also depend on what happens elsewhere with other teams with similar March Madness projections.
Here is what we believe Memphis’ NCAA tournament seed will be.
BracketMatrix.com tracks more than 100 bracketologists on a daily basis and generates an average seed for each team.
Earlier this week, the Tigers’ average was the fourth 7-seed. By Thursday night, however, they had climbed two spots to be the second 7-seed.
If nothing else, it shows that they are making headway.
Prediction: The belief here is the Tigers are still looking at a 6-seed. But we still can’t completely rule out a sequence of events that results in Memphis scoring a 5-seed.
