Back in November 2022, Meghan Trainor shared that she had lost 60lbs (4 stone), and this week – in an appearance on the Today show – the singer revealed it’s all thanks to weight training.
When the show’s host Hoda Kotb asked, ‘Can I also say that you’re in great shape?’, Trainor replied, ‘Oh my god, have you seen me in the gym?’
Kotb said: ‘First of all, we love you inside and out throughout all, but this is like a new phase for you. Is this something where you intentionally said, “You know what, I want to get healthy?”’
Trainor explained that it wasn’t so much about being ‘healthy’; it was to stay fit for her sons Riley, who turns four in February, and Barry, 17 months: ‘I mean, look at those kids. I’ve got to lift them up and chase them. I’m exhausted.’
How does she do it? Trainor shared that she doesn’t work out every day, saying ‘I’m not crazy’. Instead, ‘I try to go three times a week of lifting weights. I didn’t know lifting weights would change my life so much.’
As for cardio workouts, Trainor said: ‘I was like, dying, trying to run on the treadmill, and it made me swollen.’
Kotb replied: ‘Weights give you more energy later. I think when you run you get more adrenaline, but when you lift weights, you’re like, wow.’
‘And you’re dead the whole day,’ Trainor added. ‘I just saw I can be stronger, you know?’ before joking she can now lift her children ‘like a dumbbell’.
