With a work ethic and love for the game that’s top of the charts, this senior put the finishing touches on an impressive high school résumé in the fall. A four-year starter, two-time captain and returning T&G Super Team selection, Amari averaged 37.6 strokes per nine-hole match. He put together a 10-1-1 match-play record and 11 match medalist honors. The Mid-Wach B League MVP for a second year in a row, Amari shot a 1-over 71 to win the Mid-Wach B League tournament and then carded a 2-over 74 to finish first in the Division 1 West tourney. “Based on résumé accumulated in his four years, he is easily in the argument for best player in school history,” North Middlesex coach Derick Fors said. “(It’s) a history that includes multiple talented players who went on to achieve high success at the collegiate and professional levels.” He is the son of Peter and Kellie Amari of Townsend.
The trusty left-hand man of fellow T&G Super Teamer Ronan Mooney, this talented lefty averaged a score of 36.3 across 17 nine-hole matches this fall, which included a 4-under 31 at Highfields Country Club. A senior captain, Bhasin helped St. John’s secure its second straight Division 1 state championship thanks to his steady 3-over 75 (tied fourth) at the Haven Country Club. The two-time T&G selection also placed tied for third in the Division 1 Central tournament with a 3-over 75 at Pleasant Valley CC. “(He’s) a very solid player and has improved dramatically in the last three years as a varsity player,” St. John’s coach Sean Noonan said. Bhasin will play Division 1 golf at High Point University. He is the son of Skara and Sheveta Bhasin of Millbury.
This senior wrapped his final high school season in a perfect bow this fall. Bowie led Nashoba to its third straight Mid-Wach A title thanks to his 36.1 scoring average. A three-time league all-star, and two-time league MVP and T&G Super Team selection, this Clinton resident finished runner-up (71) at the league tournament at Northern Spy. Bowie then carded a 76 (tied for fifth) at the Division 2 Central tournament at Marlborough CC to help the Wolves win their first sectional title since 1991. The Trinity College commit also placed 10th in the Division 2 state tournament at Berkshire Hills with a 75. He is the son of Tyler and Hilare Bowie of Clinton.
This mild-mannered golfer kept everything calm, cool and collected for the Pioneers on the course this fall. A Westborough resident, Duggan delivered a scoring average of 36.9 across 14 matches, including a 3-under 33 at Wachusett Country Club. Despite playing through injury at the end of the season, this St. John’s junior proved pivotal in the biggest spots with his 5-over 77 at the Haven helping the Pioneers claim back-to-back Division 1 state championships. “He played consistent all season long,” St. John’s coach Sean Noonan said. “(He) continues on an exciting trajectory with his golf career.” A three-year varsity player, Duggan also plays guitar and won match medalist for the 2024 Massachusetts State Amateur qualifier by carding a 69 at Blissful Meadows. He is the son of Jonathan and Kathy Duggan of Westborough.
With a chip on his shoulder since last fall, Dunn delivered in the biggest of moments this season. A year after failing to qualify for the Division 1 state tournament by three strokes, this Algonquin senior shot an even-par 72 at Pleasant Valley to claim first place individually in the Division 1 Central tournament. A week later, Dunn finished in a tie for 22nd at D1 states with an 81. This Algonquin golfer shot 73 to place fourth at the Mid-Wach A tournament to earn all-league honors for a second straight year. This fall, Dunn averaged 36.1 strokes per nine holes and was match medalist 10 times for the Titans. The son of Melissa and Bryan Dunn of Northborough, this 17-year-old hopes to play on the PGA Tour someday.
Teaming up with fellow T&G Super Teamer Mason Bowie to form a dynamic duo for the Wolves, Gregg saved his best for last this fall. A four-year varsity player and two-time captain and T&G selection, Gregg carded a 3-over 75 at Marlborough CC in the Division 2 Central tournament to lead the Wolves to their first sectional title in 33 years. Gregg then finished tied for seventh with a 2-over 74 in the Division 2 state tournament at Berkshire Hills, and his birdie in his final hole of a playoff with Westwood helped his team finish runner-up. The three-time Mid-Wach A all-star and 2023 league MVP is undecided on college but plans to play golf. The Stow resident is the son of Jim Gregg and Kim Slauenwhite.
A staple on the course for the Beavers the past four seasons, this two-year captain captured high praise from his coach. “Coaches of all sports may be able to coach a once-in-career talent, and for me it is Connor,” BVT coach Craig Allen said. “From freshman through senior year, he has been the heart of the team.” A three-time State Vocational Large School tournament champ and two-time Colonial Athletic League champion, Griffin earned medalist honors 32 times in his high school career. The Hopedale resident and BVT senior averaged 36.8 strokes across nine holes this season and earned match medalist 10 times. Griffin garnered scores of 82 at the Division 2 Central tournament and 81 at the Division 2 state tournament. He is the son of Joe and Tasha Griffin of Hopedale.
Already a two-time Mid-Wach A all-star, this junior captain put together an impressive fall on the links for the Colonials. Kelley put together big-time performances at the league tournament (75) and Division 1 Central tournament (75), while compiling a pair of 33s and 34s during nine-hole rounds this season for Shrewsbury. “Ryan worked very hard last summer and came out for the fall season as a much improved player,” Shrewsbury coach Jack Gale said. “He consistently led the team in scoring. I look forward to (seeing) his game (in 2025).” Also a talented hockey player, Kelley, the son of Erin and John Kelley of Shrewsbury, hopes to play golf in college.
Mooney made the most of his final high school season. The St. John’s senior carded a 4-under 68 at the Haven to win the individual Division 1 state title (the first player to do so in school history) while helping his team secure its second straight state championship. A talented 6-foot-1 lefty from Holden, Mooney played in all 18 matches for his team and led the Pioneers in scoring average (36.0) while setting a school record with his 6-under 30 at their home course Wachusett Country Club. As powerful yet consistent as they come on the course, Mooney wraps up his high school career as a three-time T&G Super Team selection. “He’s one of the best golfers in the state,” St. John’s coach Sean Noonan said. He is the son of Joseph and Wendy Mooney of Holden.
With a year still to go in high school, this Ayer-Shirley junior set the bar pretty high on the links this fall. Ohanesian placed second in the Division 3 Central tournament with 4-over 76, just behind teammate Tommy Bergin (74), to help his team win its second straight sectional title. Ohanesian then fired a 3-over 75 in the D3 state tourney to claim the individual crown while propelling the Panthers to a D3 state title as a team. This three-time league all-star possessed a scoring average of 36.2 for nine holes this fall and won nine of his 15 regular-season matches en route to being named Mid-Wach D co-MVP. An avid skier and golfer, Ohanesian hopes to play in the National High School Golf Invitational at Pinehurst this July. He is the son of Darrin and Tanya Ohanesian of Shirley.
This tantalizing junior captain collected all the accolades this fall for Tantasqua. Pieczynski set a school record for most match medalists (15) in a season while averaging a score of 36.45 per nine holes. He helped the Warriors win the SWCL (A) title, and his tied-for-fifth performance (80) at Heritage CC helped the Warriors claim their third straight SWCL tournament title. Pieczynski tied for third (77) in the Division 2 West tournament and then tied for 22nd (78) in the D2 state tourney. “Sam Pieczynski is the most talented player I have had on my team over my past 16 seasons as a coach,” Tantasqua coach Aaron Berthiaume said. “Sam is an amazing ball striker, and he has an excellent short game to get it done around the greens. A player like Sam makes a coach already look ahead to the next season.” He is the son of Bill and Lana Pieczynski of Fiskdale.
With a flair for the dramatic, this St. John’s junior was the unsung hero in his team’s ability to repeat as state champions this fall. In his first year on varsity, Trani played in 18 matches for the Pioneers and put up a scoring average of 37.8 for nine-hole matches. Trani carded a 4-over 76 at the Division 1 Central tournament, which tied for seventh, before firing a 2-over 74 at the D1 state tourney, which tied for second and included a tidy hole out for eagle on the 18th hole at the Haven. Trani’s team wound up winning both events thanks in large part to his heroics. “(He) played consistent all season long (and) was not afraid of the big stage,” St. John’s coach Sean Noonan said. He is the son of Bryce and Nicole Trani of Shrewsbury.
