NBA player Dennis Schröder might need a minute to catch his breath. Hours before the trade deadline on February 6, news broke that the Golden State Warriors point guard would be going to the Utah Jazz as part of a three-team deal that also included the Miami Heat, plus Jimmy Butler, Andrew Wiggins and Kyle Anderson. But then, the following day, sources told ESPN that the Detroit Pistons would be acquiring Schröder from the Utah Jazz. Phew!
The deal comes less than two months after Schröder was traded to the Warriors from the Brooklyn Nets, becoming the first player to move this season. It’s also hot on the heels of Schröder’s acerbic comments about the NBA’s cut-throat deals in the wake of the shock news that the Dallas Mavericks had traded five-time NBA All-Star Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers – home of the celebrated LeBron James.

“Luka Doncic just got traded and got five f****** NBA First Teams,” Schröder ranted on NBC Sports Bay Area. “All-Stars, he brought money to them, NBA Finals last year and US$117 million he can’t sign now because he got traded … not even Steph Curry’s safe probably when I see that.” He continued, “It’s modern slavery at the end of the day … everybody can decide where you’re going, even if you have a contract.”
His no-holds-barred comments have confused and angered fans. O’Shea Jackson Jr, son of rapper Ice Cube, took to X to comment, “Bruh. What?” Other netizens called Schröder “ignorant” and “detached from reality”, saying, “Modern slavery pays better than 99 per cent of jobs then …”

It’s the second time Schröder has made headlines since joining the Warriors in December. Last week, he injured an ankle in a game – strangely enough, against the Utah Jazz – and returned to the court after receiving medical attention. His coach, Steve Kerr, called him an “iron man” and said, “We needed his scoring, we needed his leadership.”
So who is Dennis Schröder?
What is Dennis Schröder’s family background?
Schröder’s parents, Axel and Fatou, met in Banjul, Gambia, where she was raising two children from a previous relationship. To be with Axel, Fatou and her children eventually moved to Braunschweig, Germany, where Dennis was born in 1993.
