Heading into this past weekend’s UNC official visit, Kenedy Uzoma was candid: if everything checked out, he’d commit. And, that’s what he did on Saturday.
“For one, the coaching staff is all very experienced people. They’re very precise when it comes to details, so much so that even when it came to the visit, they would explain certain details of the game that a lot of people wouldn’t even think about. A lot of coaches I’ve been around, they didn’t tend to do that. It was definitely a different experience to see coaches explain the details of the game right on the visit…
“Great staff, great people, a great culture, I love their environment, and for the first time ever — I’m going to be really blunt with you — going on a visit to a university or college this was the first time I actually felt pretty comfortable. I felt pretty great. After going there, I didn’t feel nervous a bit [or] anxious — I felt very confident in my decision.
“And, playing under someone like [Bill] Belichick, it’s an honor [and] it’s a blessing. And, I would love to be developed by him.”
In late July, Uzoma committed to Minnesota under a “grey-shirt” agreement, meaning he’d delay his enrollment until after the 2025 season. In mid-January, the 6-foot-5, 215-pounder withdrew from that commitment. A week later, UNC offered and the aforementioned official visit was set.
Uzoma made 34 catches for 817 yards and 12 touchdowns this past season. On defense, he tallied 24 tackles, 3.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles. Minnesota was recruiting him as an edge rusher, whereas UNC has talked to him about a tight end projection.
