It is not a secret that plenty of Mayhem’s athletes will be competing at the Mayhem Classic next month. While Rich Froning is taking the lead on the programming, the on-site logistics from movement standards, lane judging and evaluating appeals or disputes will be handled solely by the Association of Fitness Judges (AFJ).
Created in 2023, the AFJ was created to improve and develop judging of fitness competitions. CrossFit Mayhem has used judges from the AFJ for online portions of the CrossFit Games season in the past.
And in 2025, the AFJ will be responsible for the Mayhem Classic. On the most recent The Rich Froning Podcast, Rich Froning said he did not want to be any concerns from non-Mayhem athletes that there would be any bias during the competition.
Thus, the AFJ will act independently when it comes to selecting judges, assigning the judges throughout the weekend, managing the movement standards and settling any disputes or appeals that occur throughout the weekend.
The 2025 Mayhem Classic is the first In-Person Qualifying Event of the 2025 CrossFit Games season. Two men and two women will earn an invite to compete at the 2025 CrossFit Games in Albany, New York, this August.
