With guards Luka Doncic and Quentin Grimes no longer with the Dallas Mavericks, there’s quite a lack of depth alongside veteran star Kyrie Irving.
One route to address this glaring hole in the lineup is the buyout market, where NBA champion guard Bruce Brown may be available. There’s no telling if Brown’s contract will actually be bought out by the New Orleans Pelicans, but if it is, FanSided predicts the Mavericks to be among the teams to pounce at the opportunity to add him.
“Teams that may be looking for another versatile guard like the Dallas Mavericks, Miami Heat, or Orlando Magic could be a natural landing spot should Brown hit the open market between now and the playoffs,” FanSided’s Michael Saenz wrote. “At the very least, it’s an idea that Brown and his camp will think about and likely discuss, at the very least, with New Orleans brass.”
Saenz brings up a valid point, as the Pelicans’ timeline does not match that of Brown’s. New Orleans is the No. 15 seed in the Western Conference with a record of 12-39, having a minimal chance of reaching even the Play-In Tournament. Alternatively, Brown is in the final year of a two-year, $45 million deal at 28 years old.
He averaged just 8.4 points and 3.8 rebounds on 43.5% shooting in 18 appearances with the Toronto Raptors this season. Despite the drop in numbers with the Raptors, Brown was a key contributor for the Denver Nuggets in their 2023 title run. He averaged 12 points on 51.1% shooting en route to hoisting the Larry O’Brien Trophy.
