In a thrilling final of the Abohar open cricket tournament, organised by the Jakhar trust as part of the Nashon Se Door, Khelon Ki Aur campaign, Maujgarh XI defeated Bhagwati Blaster XI at the Abha Square stadium. The winning team was awarded cash prizes and trophies by MLA Sandeep Jakhar.
The final match saw Maujgarh XI win the toss and opt to bowl first. Bhagwati Blaster XI posted a total of 147 runs in their 20 overs. In reply, Maujgarh XI chased down the target successfully, scoring 148 runs in just 15.3 overs, securing a comfortable win. Raman Bishnoi was named the man of the match for his outstanding performance.
Maujgarh XI received a cash prize of Rs 51,000, while the runner-up Bhagwati Blaster XI took home Rs 31,000. Rinku of Bhagwati Blaster XI was honoured as the man of the series, with a cash prize of Rs 5,100 and a trophy.
Additionally, individual awards were given to the best batsman (Raman Bishnoi, Maujgarh XI), best bowler (Rinku, Bhagwati Blaster XI), and best fielder (Bablu, Sohit XI), each receiving a cash prize of Rs 3,100 and a trophy.
MLA Jakhar highlighted the legacy of the “Nashon Se Door, Khelon Ki Aur” campaign, initiated over 20 years ago by Surinder Kumar Jakhar, former chairman of Indian Farmer Fertilizer Company (IFFCO) and a former cricket team captain at DAV college Abohar.
The campaign aims to steer youth away from drugs and towards sports and social welfare, continuing Surinder Jakhar’s vision.
The event, which lasted 16 days, witnessed participation from hundreds of players across 32 teams. Despite adverse weather conditions in the last two days, the players displayed remarkable spirit and perseverance.
Mayor Vimal Thatai and several councillors, including Mangat Rai Bathla, Puneet Arora Sonu, and others, were present at the event and appreciated the efforts of all involved. The tournament was also covered by commentators Surinder Chanchal, Ved Prakash Dhaka and Romy.
